In its aim to eliminate parole after 25 years of a life
sentence the “Harper Government” is clearly espousing the Christian view of the
state, the main function of which is to restrain and punish the sinful. In other words, Harper and company are
standing in opposition to the Greek view of the state which envisages “the good
life” - where the primary purpose is to arrange training and education of
citizens towards the promotion of virtue.[1]
