The fact is that Harper’s 425-page omnibus Budget Bill C-38 takes apart
the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act and makes questionable changes to the
Fisheries Act. Shouldn’t a Budget Bill
be confined to finances? Shouldn’t these
be separate Bills before Parliament? Did
we not just have an omnibus Crime Bill? Harper’s “Budget,” which does
everything it can to promote Alberta oil, and much more, raises better
comparisons with Lenin’s N.E.P. (New Economic Policy) and Gosplan (The State
Planning Commission). This, of course, helped pave the way for Stalin’s later
Five-Year Plans. Maybe Canadians need to
budget for more historians - to better preserve the memory of our
democracy.
